The Morning Show trailer, cast, release date and where to stream

When Apple announced its plans for a new streaming service called Apple TV Plus, The Morning Show was one of the first titles to be announced. Starring Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carell and Reese Witherspoon, it promises to be one of the new service's big draws and, with the first teaser trailers available on YouTube, publicity has never been higher.

So what exactly can we expect from the new drama? We know Apple has already ordered two seasons of the series and will draw - at least in part - from Brian Stelter's book Top Morning: Inside the Cutthroat Morning TV. This is Steve Carell's first TV show host with management, and Aniston's first major TV role with friends back in the early aughts.

We also know who is in charge of the show - it's showrunner Erin Kerry. Erin is a longtime TV veteran, working on a number of series including Bates Motel, Friday Night Lights and The Wonder Years, which won her Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Drama and Comedy Series respectively.

Morning Trailer Show

We caught our first glimpse of the morning show at Apple's April press conference, but we didn't get the full teaser until mid-August.

The trailer (embedded below) focuses on the conversations and tone we can expect from the series. We can eavesdrop on the characters, about the fame and prestige that comes with the show and how that stands in relation to their duties as journalists, and plays on the idea of truth in the news. It doesn't really showcase the show's talent all that much, but it does set expectations.

The Morning Show release date

The Morning Show may not have an exact release date, but it does have a release window: Fall 2019. That's when Apple revealed plans to launch its streaming service, and it would make sense that it would be one of the first shows to be featured on the service.

We will update this section when we receive a final release date from Apple.

What is the morning show about?

While it sounds like the morning show is Apple's competitor on Good Morning America, the morning show is much closer to the newsroom than any of the morning newscasts. That is to say, it will be dramatic and dark with tons of character conflict. Expecting segments of fluff with trainers? You won't find it here.

The best description we have is from series star Reese Witherspoon, who told an audience at Apple TV Plus' April debut that the show “pulls back the curtain on the power dynamics between men and women in the high-stakes world of morning news.”

So far, we know that Aniston and Witherspoon both play leads to the show, with Carell playing a co-host named Mitch Kessler. Also listed on the IMDB page for The Billy Crudup Show ("Big Fish", Watchmen, "Almost Famous") and Nestor Carbonell (Bates Motel, Lost) among a number of other actors and actresses.

Where can I see?

Right now, the only place you'll be able to stream shows is on Apple TV Plus. Apple claims it's a launch exclusive to the streaming service, but doesn't say whether it will show up there indefinitely or if it will eventually come to other networks.

Something we'll know more about when the show debuts later this year.
