Google plans to announce its new pixel devices considered 4 pixels and 4 pixels XL - in October 2019.
There have been some rumors surrounding the devices as well as some official leaks from Google for themselves, but how did they expect to compare to their predecessors? Here are the rumored specs for Pixel 4 and 4 XL versus Pixel 3 and 3 XL.
Design
- Pixel 3: 145.6 x 68,2 x 7.9mm
- Pixel 3 XL: 158 x 76.7 x 7.9mm
- Pixel 4: 147 x 68.9 x 8.2 mm (tbc)
- Pixel 4 XL: 160.4 x 75.2 x 8.2 mm (tbc)
We know the Pixel 4 and 4 XL will look different in Pixel 3 and 3 XL from the back, as Google has confirmed the Pixel 4 will feature a square camera body in the top left - which we can assume the larger device will also offer - and 2018 devices have one camera lens.
We also assume the Pixel 4 XL does not have a notch at the top of the display like the Pixel 3 XL, like the bezel is required to fit in the Google "salt" chip and the additional sensors Google has confirmed for the Pixel 4.
We still expect to see a two-tone rear on the Pixel 4 devices, although like the Pixel 3 handset, plus a colored power button, there's no 3,5mm headphone jack and USB C cable.
There's a good chance Pixel 4 devices will ditch the physical fingerprint sensor on the back of Pixel 3 and 3 XL devices for a sub-display option, however.
Display
- Pixel 3: 5,5" Full HD+ 60Hz
- 3 x pixels: 6,3-inch HD+ quad-core, 60Hz
- Pixel 4: 5.6" to 5,8" full HD+, 90Hz
- 4 x Pixels: 6.2-inch to 6,4-inch HD+ quad-core, 90Hz
We expect both Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL to have bezels at the top and bottom of the screen in order to fit into those extra sensors we mentioned.
The Pixel 4 is rumored to have a display between 5.6 inches and 5,8 inches, while the Pixel 4 XL's display is said to be between 6.2 inches and 6,4 inches. He also stated that the Pixels could offer a 90Hz refresh rate like the OnePlus 7 Pro, which was supposed to deliver a much quieter than current models and 60Hz refresh rate.
The resolution hasn't been all leaked, but it wouldn't be surprising to see the smaller model accept full HD+ and the larger HD+ quad model like the Pixel, 3 and 3 XL.
Pixel 3 has a 5,5-inch screen, while Pixel 3 XL has a 6,3-inch display, i.e. Pixel 4 can increase the display size, but Pixel 4 XL is most likely to offer the same. like its predecessor, but with a bezel instead of a groove.

The Pixel 4 and 4 XL are expected to have dual rear cameras in a square camera body rather than a single sensor like the Pixel 3 and 3 XL.
He claimed the dual rear cameras on the new devices will consist of a 12 megapixel sensor and a 16 megapixel telephoto sensor, while the Pixel 3 and XL 3 both have a 12.2 megapixel sensor that offers brilliant results.
On the front, the expected Pixel 4 and 4 XL will offer a single camera lens based on an image Google released showing the installation of a salt chip. Both the Pixel 3 and 3 XL have dual 8MP front cameras with wide angle and telephoto lenses.
Considering how big the pixel 3 camera results are, we're hoping that Google will ensure new devices offer the same so we expect features like night vision to be on board new models despite the change in specs.
Equipment

The Google Pixel 4 and 4 XL are expected to run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor with 6GB of RAM. It is expected to offer microSD memory.
He claimed the Pixel 4 will have a 2800mAh battery, while the Pixel 4 XL is said to have a 3700mAh battery. Support for wireless charging is expected, given the Pixel 3 and 3 XL offer it.
Pixel 3 and 3 XL meanwhile, run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with 4GB of RAM support. There is no microSD support, but both came in 64 and 128GB storage options.
The Pixel 3 has a 2915mAh battery, while the XL 3 has a 3430mAh battery and both support Qi wireless charging.
Software
- Android Question
Pixel 4 and 4 XL will run on Android M, but Pixel 3 and 3 XL will be upgraded to Android M, meaning all devices compared to this feature will offer the same software.
We know the Pixel 4 and 4 XL will have a few extra features though, including facial recognition and motion gestures after Google confirmed it in a blog post.
Conclusion
While most of the Pixel 4 and 4 XL specs are still speculation, we do know that the new devices will ship with a new camera setup on the back, as well as new software features like face recognition and motion gestures.
That's quite a lot considering the 4 and 4 XL will offer hardware upgrades in terms of processor and RAM, though it seems like the battery performance might not differ too much from the Pixel 3 and 3 XL.
