Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 specifications, launch date, price and rumors

Xiaomi is preparing to unveil the Redmi Note 8 series on August 29th at an event in China. The new lineup will follow in the company's Redmi Note 7 series, which was launched earlier this year on February 28 in India. Redmi followed it up with the Note 7C which was announced on May 20th. And now Xiaomi is all set to present the next generation of its very popular attention series.

Xiaomi has managed to ship over 20 million units of the Redmi Note 7 Series worldwide, which is a feat in itself. We found the Redmi Note 7 Pro to be the most refreshing update to the lineup in a long time, as we noted in our review. The Note 7 Series sets the standard in smartphone markets around the world and with Xiaomi now for itself.

Mobile phone turf has seen a lot of changes in the last quarter or so with consumers eyeing features such as pop-up cameras, an in-display fingerprint sensor and multiple cameras under different budget segments.

Having said that, the Redmi Note series is a very important line-up for the Chinese electronics manufacturer, which is why it's doubling down on feature-rich phones.

As Xiaomi is going to introduce Redmi Note 8 along with Redmi Note 8 Pro in China on August 29th. Either of the two phones is expected to feature a 64MP camera.

Xiaomi has recently revealed that it is developing a phone with Samsung's bright GW1 64MP camera sensor and that it will be launched soon.

Now its confirmed that the phone is none other than the Redmi Note 8 Pro which will have a 64MP quad camera setup on the back. Xiaomi is already teasing that the 64MP camera will offer up to 25x zoom.

Redmi Note 8 will also be a quad camera setup, but also with a 48MP main camera.

Xiaomi has already confirmed through the Chinese social network Weibo that it is going to introduce the next generation of the Redmi Note series on August 29th. Earlier, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said that two phones in the series will be presented during the event on August 29, where he will also declassify his long-awaited Redmi TV.

The event will be held in China and we can expect Xiaomi to announce at least three new products - Redmi Note 8, Redmi Note 8 Pro and Redmi TV.

Xiaomi's Redmi Note series almost always offer excellent value for money smartphones with premium features and design upgrades, as seen on the Redmi Note 7 series. Given that the Redmi Note 7 and Pro versions were priced starting at Rs 9,999 ($140) and Rs 13,999 ($195), respectively, we expect the Redmi Note 8 series to maintain prices for the base variant of the regular Note 8.

As for the Redmi Note 8 Pro, we expect one of the storage options to be priced under UAH 15000 ($210) when it arrives in India at a later date.

Redmi Note 8 Specifications

While Xiaomi hasn't spilled a lot of beans on the upcoming Redmi Note 8 series, we know that the Pro version in the lineup is bound to have a 64MP handset on top of the three sensors. So, its a 64MP quad camera setup we are looking for for the Redmi Note 8 Pro.

From the invite that appeared on Weibo, we see three cameras along with a fingerprint sensor, housed in one vertical module. The camera sensor and flash are located in close proximity to the main camera module.

The Redmi Note 8 Pro will be powered by the G90T MediaTek chipset while the Redmi Note 8 will use the Snapdragon 665.

Some rumors have also indicated that the Redmi Note 8 will support 18W fast charging, but apart from that, there is no solid information about the specifications of the Redmi Note 8 series just yet.

Having said that, we expect the rumors to deliver some key details about the upcoming phones as we get closer to the launch date.

Redmi Note 8 Pro

Less than a week before launch, Xiaomi took to Weibo to share official renders of both devices. As expected, the Redmi Note 8 Pro looks very similar to the Redmi K20, but with an extra camera and fingerprint scanner on the back. We are also getting a new green color which was not available on redmi k20.

Shortly after, Xiaomi teases the Redmi Note 8 by sharing a render that gives us a glimpse of the rear. Can you expect a similar quad camera setup but with a 48MP main camera. The same post also noted that the phone will be powered by the 665 processor.
