Frontier 3 system requirements are here and it's good news for AMD users

Frontier 3 is simply one of the most anticipated games of the year, and if you've been on the edge of your seat wondering if your computer can run it, you can relax: the system requirements are here.

Over the past few months we've been flooded with PC games with crazy high system requirements - looking out for you, control - but it looks like a lot of people will be able to have a smooth experience in Borderlands 3.

  • Here are the best gaming PCs
  • Check out the best AMD graphics cards
  • Here are the best AMD processors

Borderlands 3 will only require an AMD Radeon HD 7970 and run the game with a graphics card that is seven years old at the moment, along with 6GB of RAM and an FX-8350 graphics processor. As we look at it, this is great news, as it means that almost everything you want to get in over Borderlands 3 will be able to.

But, don't take that to mean that the game won't have the latest visuals. In its blog post on the game's website, Gearbox has specified graphics options that you can use to customize how the game looks. These include volumetric fog, AMD FidelityFX sharpening - which is, in essence, high-end lower-resolution images - and of course the field of view (FOV) slider.

Of course, if you want to turn all these effects to their full potential, you're going to want a stronger processor, which is probably why Frontier 3 suggests AMD Radeon on the RX 590.

We've gone ahead and listed the system requirements below, but just keep in mind what those 1440p games are. So, if you want to play Borderlands 3 on one of the best 4K monitors, you're going to want to step that GPU up a notch - maybe for an AMD Radeon XT and 5700 receiver, or an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 super series.

Do not miss:  At least one Motorola RAZR user suffers from peeling

Minimum Requirements (1080p)

  • Processor: AMD FX-8350 will not (Intel i5-3570 processors)
  • RAM: 6GB
  • Video card: AMD Radeon HD 7970 Series Graphics Card (Model 680)
  • Storage: 75 GB

Recommended (1440r)

  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 (Intel Core i7-4770)
  • RAM: 16GB
  • Graphic card: AMD Radeon on RX 590 (Model 1060 6GB)
  • Storage: 75 GB

Teaming up with the Red team

Rather than partnering with Nvidia to bring out the brilliant Ray-rendered graphics and DLSS tech for Borderlands 3, Gearbox teamed up with AMD instead. The game will be through FidelityFX, and the fact that it prioritizes AMD Ryzen processors in its system requirements could mean that the game will be heavily multi-threaded.

As we look at it, this is great news. The presence of several high-profile games designed for different hardware manufacturers means that the features shared by AMD and NVIDIA will only get better as time goes on. We've already seen the software company's ability to get all sorts of headlines in games like Control and Metro Exodus, its about time we're seeing the same thing with the new FidelityFX features in the latest AMD Navi graphics card platform.

We're sure more games will be using AMD technology in the coming years, but if you recently grabbed a Ryzen 7 3700X and an AMD Radeon 5700 receiver, it'll pay off in Borderlands 3 on September 13th.
