Best smartwatches: our top recommendations

Here are our recommendations for the best round smartwatch on the market.

Apple Watch Series 5

The Apple Watch Series 5 takes a step up from the Watch Series 3 with a larger and more immersive display, along with a slimmer build and other design tweaks. No battery improvements over the 3 Series, but the 4 Series did, the 5 Series adds a few extra features including an ECG monitor, a modern processor, and straps from previous generations are still compatible despite the new 40mm and 42mm case sizes .

As a smart watch of all trades, there is nothing better than the Apple Watch Series 5 for iOS users, especially now it's always on display. It offers a great design and a very accomplished smartwatch. If you don't fuss about the Always On Display or the built-in compass, you might consider the 4 series - but you have to find it.

Best of all smartwatches

The Apple Watch Series 5 isn't for everyone though, especially if you're on Android and there are plenty of other great smartwatches to consider no matter what budget you're on. Here are the ones you should consider:

Samsung Galaxy Watch

Like the previous Samsung smart watch, the Galaxy watch is well made, easy to use, durable and attractive. It comes in 42mm and 46mm models, both of which offer a durable stainless steel case with premium finishes. The Tizen OS lacks apps compared to the likes of Google's Wear OS and Apple's Watch OS, but it's user friendly.

Like the Apple Series 5 and Class 3, the Galaxy Watch offers built-in GPS and waterproofing and NFC for use with Samsung Pay Too, allowing you to make payments from your wrist. The Samsung Galaxy Watch is one of the few very strong competitors for Apple Watch. It's like a smart watch, as it's a sports watch and the 46mm model offers excellent battery life, far exceeding the Apple Watch.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active

The Samsung Galaxy Watch is an active lightweight, sporty design for the Galaxy watch, ditching the rotating bezel and reducing the size to 40mm. There's waterproofing at 50 meters, good sport tracking capabilities and great performance, though it's not as feature-rich as the Galaxy Watch Active 2, which arrived a couple of months after the Active.

As it runs on the Tizen platform as a galaxy watch rather than OS wear, there's still a dearth of third-party apps, and it's not a surprising choice for iPhone users either. If you're looking for a watch to go with your Android device, that also happens to be, although many fitness and activity tracker Samsung Galaxy Watch Active are very compelling devices to consider, but consider the Galaxy Watch Active 2 as well.

Fossil 5th generation smart watch

The Fossil 5th generation smartwatch is one of the many smartwatches offered as part of the Umbrella company – most of which offer the same features. System 5 is not a small smartwatch but it offers good performance compared to previous fossil smartwatches with interchangeable straps, solid build quality and comes with a heart rate sensor and built-in GPS.

It will be a bit too big for some, but the interchangeable straps are great, the faster the battery is good, and if you're on Android, the Wear OS program will work just as well as it can with your device.

Michael Kors Runway Open

The Michael Kors Catwalk Access is the perfect watch for those who are after stylish wrist-wear with a solid performance and plenty of features. Subsequent Sophie Access and Bradshaw Access, Runway Access introduces built-in GPS and heart rate monitoring, while still offering plenty of apps thanks to the Google Wear OS platform.

Its battery life isn't the best out there, and despite a host of fitness features, it's certainly a more fashion-focused device, but for a Michael Kors fan of runway access, it's a fabulous watch and everything you could want.

Michael Kors MKGO access

Michael Kors MKGO Access is a great smartwatch for the active Michael Kors fan. It features a lightweight and sporty design, a beautiful display and a great feature set including waterproofing, built-in GPS and NFC for Google Pay payments from your wrist.

It's not as premium as Michael Kors' runway access (above), it's not the best battery on this list and there are a few performance issues here and there, but overall, MKGO and customizable Michael Kors face and heavy The MK branding will be perfect for any Kors fans.

Huawei Watch GT 2

The Huawei Watch GT 2 has a fantastic OLED display, combined with all the hardware you might need to track just about any activity. It's the perfect modern fitness partner that offers all-around performance and well-organized information as well as great design.

The Watch GT 2 needs more third party app support to reach its full potential and the refresh rate can do with speedups a bit, but always on display it's a welcomed addition to the more original models, and the Watch GT 2 has a brilliant battery which makes it quite worthy of consideration .

Skagen Falster 2

The Falster Skagen 2 has a fabulous Scandinavian design, offering a simple and minimalist look that's perfect for those after slim smartwatches.

It doesn't have the best battery life of those on this list, and it runs older hardware too so suffers from some lag issues here and there. Although the software experience is great, as it is the display and the exquisite design makes it a great option to consider.

Fitbit Reverse 2

On the reverse chart, the 2 is slightly different from the other smartwatches on this list in that it is primarily a fitness device, with Smartwatch functionality coming in second. You still receive smartphone notifications On the contrary, but you are limited to read-only if you are on Android, in which case quick replies are supported.

This device 2 has built-in Amazon Alexa though, it's a great fitness tracker, offers brilliant sleep monitoring and while the platform lacks third-party apps, there is an improvement. There's a lovely, solid design too, along with interchangeable straps and always on display.

Apple Watch Series 3

The Apple Watch Series 3 takes over all the features introduced on the Series 2 model and adds more power and features, including 4G connectivity. With built-in GPS, a more powerful processor, water-resistance and more emphasis on fitness than the Series 1 and 2, the Apple Watch Series 3 has stacks of potential, even if it's not quite the same as done on the 5 Series.

From notice and Apple Pay to allow heart rate monitoring and fitness tracking; The Apple Watch Series 3 can work as a smart home remote control for home devices, quickly unlock your Mac, or make and receive calls without your phone. It's also a very big price now, after the release of the 5 Series.

Zenith Connected Modular 45

Tag Hoyer connected the 45-piece modular smartwatch - one of the most promising ones you can buy - even if it's from 2017. There is a newer model in Connected Modular 41 If you are looking for a small case, so keep that in mind. Both drip in quality and they sit firmly in fashion, reflecting the Carrera watch brand with an added emphasis on personalization.

Modular devices connected offer not only hours of customization, but physical customization too - and there's a huge range of options so you can get exactly what you want...if you can afford it. Armed with credentials that will be worn anywhere on premium smartwatches, the 45 and 41 also bring out GPS and NFC to boost your digital skills, although they aren't fully loaded like some competing devices. However, the most important thing is that this premium smartwatch feels like a premium device. There is nothing that matches the Mont Blanc position of the luxury modular series and the modular approach is unique.

Crosses View Pro

TIC Watch Pro is a very versatile watch. It's not just an attractive watch that you can wear to work and work off, but it's also a wear on the smart watch's OS battery life. It's rather chunky and there's no LTE connectivity, but the TIC watch pro is comfortable to wear and it's a lot more affordable than its competitors.

It's hard to think of many smartwatches at this moment in price that offer anything like the TIC Watch Pro offers.

Diesel Full Guard

The diesel on full guard offers a large display and a trendy, very diesel-like design. This is a very massive watch, so if that's not you style, then a diesel on full guard is probably not for you, but if you're a fan of a fashion brand, this watch is as diesel as you can get.

It's not perfect, but if you're looking for a watch with OS wear that's heavy on design and doesn't necessarily have all the features, a diesel on full guard is perfect. It's worth bearing in mind that there is a new diesel watch with improved internals available, so if you're into a diesel watch, check for the same time.

michael kors access to sophie

Michael Kors Access to Sophie is a stunning smart watch, combining beauty with brains, especially when paired with an Android rather than an iOS device. It features a luxurious and waterproof design, cool enough to make it stand out from the rest of the OS wear crowd, while also offering decent performance.

It misses out on a couple of extra features introduced in the new Michael Kors watch, but Sophie's access still offers customizable Michael Kors watch faces that make this watch feel a little more special than some of the competition, while additional options and how The "looks" are organized perfectly, especially for those who like to match their look to their clothes. For MK fans who love the company's signature, thick and shiny watches but want them hooked up, Sophie is a great option.

Casio ZSO-F30 with

There's a lot to like about the Casio ZSO-F30, which is Casio's third generation dual-screen outdoor watch. It's fast, responsive and very fancy. It provides a solid and durable build, always sees time thanks to dual screen technology, and loads sensor data for hiking and outdoor sports.

There are a few things missing - a heart rate monitor and a companion app for syncing activity and browsing - but the Casio BBP-30 has great battery life and, like its predecessors, this is one of the best wear OS watches designed for outdoor sports (although it works better there). The downside to this is that OS wear isn't necessarily the best platform designed for outdoor sports.

Mission Nixon

The Nixon mission succeeds where a lot of the smart ones fail in offering great designs that are a pleasure to wear. The durable build is a big sell too, meaning you don't have to worry about water, so it's well suited for wearing in harsh environments like surf or snow.

Mission Nixon is a good looking watch for those who are happy with large scale devices. He carries the lifestyle charm he has with a rugged appearance and, in the case of our review, attractive looks. There is a better choice for those who want an active sports watch but sometimes looking at what is good enough.
