Huawei P40 and P40 Pro

Huawei P40 and P40 Pro: what can we see?

Huawei made a lot of press appearances in 2019. She showed the world the great P30 Pro smartphones and the P30 standard at the beginning of the year, followed by the pairing of the 30 and 30 Pro Mate in the second half.

Unfortunately, the P30 Pro and P30 Mate were the first devices to be affected by the US trade war with China, which means launching without access to Google apps.

How might this affect the Huawei P40 and P40 Pro? Will they still launch the P series and what can we expect from their work? Here is what fans of this company expect from the P40 and P40 Pro, as well as some of the rumors that go around the device.

Huawei P40 series, release date and price

  • Expected in March 2020
  • Price from $650

The Huawei P series is usually released in March. Given that the company launched the P30 series on time despite the trade war between the US and China, we still hope that the P40 and P40 Pro will arrive in early spring 2020.

Huawei unveiled the P30 series on March 26 in Paris, with pre-orders starting to come in immediately after the event. The P20 series launched in March 2018. Given all this, we can predict the presentation of the P40 series around the end of March 2020.

In terms of pricing, the P30 series starts at £699, while the P30 Pro starts at £899. We would be happy if prices for the P40 and P40 Pro series were kept around the same as their predecessors, or not much more.

Design

  • Display - Waterfall
  • Metal and glass structures
  • Higher IP Rating

The Huawei P30 and P30 Pro smartphones are equipped with glass and metal sandwich construction, with a vertical rear camera and a main camera with five modules in a rectangular cutout.

We don't expect the P40 and P40 Pro series to be very different from the P30 and P30 Pro, although we would like to see a better IP rating on the standard model. I would like to see those innovations about which there are rumors.

Display

  • OLED
  • In-display fingerprint sensors
  • higher resolution

The Huawei P30 and P30 Pro series have full HD+ resolution through their OLED displays. We hope to increase this feature to HD+ quad, at least in the P40 Pro model.

The 30 Pro series introduced what Huawei calls the 'Display Horizon', which is a curved waterfall of sides. It is likely that the same type of display will appear in the P40 Pro series. We also expect an improved optical display and a fingerprint sensor.

Камеры

  • Dual front camera

The cameras in the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro smartphones are among the best smartphone cameras on the market. The P40 and P40 Pro series will also put a lot of emphasis on new camera features.

We can expect the P40 and P40 Pro to have more upgrades and improvements than the Mate series. Most likely, the P40 Pro series will become a more capable device.

Equipment specifications

  • Kirin 990 chip expected
  • Advanced 5500 mAh graphene battery
  • Quick charge (45 minutes)

Huawei manufactures its own chips. Both the P40 and P40 Pro are slated to run on Kirin's latest processor, the Kirin 990, which is the same platform used by its sister Huawei 30 series. A 5G model will be included in the box.

We expect to see super fast wired charging on the P40 Pro - most likely at 50W, as the buddy-series 30 is at 40W.

Software: Will there be Google apps?

That's the million dollar question: Will the P40 and P40 Pro have access to Google's offerings, as well as its services? At the moment, this seems unlikely unless they run an old version of the Huawei Android smartphone software; EMUI 9.1 and not the new EMUI 10.

Let's hope that this situation with Google, which arose during the US-China trade war, will be resolved in a positive direction by 2020. So for now, we won't rule out the possibility of the P40 and P40 Pro series using Google apps, otherwise the Mate 30 series software experience awaits this series.

Also, they could run Huawei on the new HarmonyOS (Hong Meng in China), but again, there might be additional problems with Google Apps and services that are considered a must-have for European launches.
