Nintendo Switch Q&A

If you need to know more before you drop your cash on the latest from Nintendo, here are some answers to your burning questions.

What are the joy-con controllers?

When you buy a Joy-Con controller, you'll actually get a pair of controllers that you can attach to the side panels of your Nintendo Switch when not in use or when you're playing tablets from your TV.

If your switch is fixed, you can put away Joy-Con and play one in each hand. The left hand receives the controller with an analog stick and D-pad, the right hand handles one with a second analog and the usual A, B, X and y buttons.

What is a joy-con grip controller?

The Joy-Con grip comes as an optional accessory that is used to connect two Joy-Con controllers in order to form something a little bit more solid for you to hold. It is equipped with a long handle and a plastic block to make the otherwise rather small and light Joy-Con feel more like a standard controller. Luckily, Nintendo is providing it in a box with a switch so you don't have to buy it separately.

Is there a Nintendo Switch Controller Pro?

Yes there is, although it doesn't come from the console. Luckily, you don't need this controller to play anything, as it works more like a "premium" option for those who are more comfortable with one that's solid in their hands. Prices are not cheap though, averaging around $99, though you can sometimes charge for $89 or even $79. There is currently no sign of the Nintendo Switch Console Premium Edition with the Pro Controller included, but this may change over time.

Do I need to buy additional controllers for multiplayer on the Nintendo Switch?

Maybe not! Given that the Joy-Con controller can be split into two parts, it can be used as an elementary controller when turned on its side because of each analog knob and button. So far we've seen the NBA 2K series, Tailor Clips and Mario Kart using this method for local multiplayer in both docking and tablet modes.

However, if you want to play four players, then you'll need to invest in an extra pair of Joy-Con controllers or, if you're really committed, a whole set of pro controllers. You can buy Joy-Cons as a couple, which will help you save some money if that's your intention, and if your friends own the switch just get them to bring them!

The Legend of Zelda: The Spirit of the Wild Offer

The latest legend of the Zelda saga, Breath of the Wild, has been raving since launch, and remains the biggest reason to buy Switch. Typically, Zelda games don't drop in price in a hurry and given how much the console rides to success in this stuff, we can't see it just dropping at all times. You may be able to find it in a bundle, otherwise take a look at the best deals we've found on offer.

nintendo switch micro sd card deals

The Switch comes stock with only 32GB of internal memory, so you'll want to pick up a cheap memory card or two if you're planning on making any digital purchases or just need a room for the inevitable game-fix patches. Don't worry though, they're actually surprisingly cheap, with even 64GB coming in for under $50.

Be on the lookout for micro SD cards, which are also known as, depending on their size, microSDHC (up to 32GB) and microSDXC (up to a huge 2TB coming soon). Nintendo has its own branded cards, but you will pay a small premium for the preferred markings. So now we'll take a look at this selection of cheap microSDXC on switch-friendly Nintendo cards.
