Spotify dishes will allow you to search through the music your friends are listening to

Spotify is testing a new feature called taste buds, according to a new report, and it could stir up concerns about user privacy.

Receptors will let you discover new music with the help of your friends. A prototype of the feature was spotted on the web version of the Spotify explorer app Jane Manchun Wong (across TechCrunch website). It's still unclear exactly how this feature will work, but its landing page, which anyone can view here, says, "Now you can discover music thanks to friends whose taste you trust."

  • What is Spotify and how does it work?

As Manchun Wong pointed out, you can click on the pen icon and search through the people you follow and see the songs they listened to the most. You can also add songs to your library this way. We assume that Spotify users will be given the option to share their music stories with dishes and the people who follow them, but this has not yet been verified.

Keep in the Buds Reminds Friends weekly playlist, which was also seen earlier this year. Its goal was to create a custom playlist based on your friends open playlists. Both of these features suggest it's made for those interested in increasing their social activity for an activity that is limited to the desktop and only shows what your friends are currently listening to.

When it's live, taste buds can also be accessed from the navigation menu below the library. We've reached out to Spotify for comment on the feature and will update you if and when we learn more.
