Xiaomi Mi 10: release date, rumors and speculation

Xiaomi is already making waves over the past few years, with a more aggressive approach to international expansion and wants to gain a real foothold in Europe.

The next flagship phone for 2020 will be Mi-10 and Mi 10 Pro, which the company has confirmed. But what do they offer?

Release date and price

  • Q1 2020 confirmed

Xiaomi doesn't often release its phones in its homeland of China before the Global event. Sometimes there are some variations - perhaps in names - but in recent years we have seen some kind of parity in these launches.

There is currently no confirmed launch date, but Xiaomi has confirmed that the Mi 10 will launch in Q1 2020. We suspect there will be a launch in China, possibly February 11, followed by an unveiling at the Mobile World Congress 2020 at the end of February, soon in total, it will be February 23, although nothing has been confirmed.

The leaked specs have suggested that the Mi 10 will be priced in the RMB3000 range (that's around $330), while the Mi 10 Pro will start at RMB3799, which is around £410. These prices will likely be adjusted for a global release, but they still look like good value for money - if they're true.

Design

There have been a couple of renders and now some hands-on photos of the device claim to be the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro 5G. The design didn't throw up too many surprises as it looks like an evolution from the Mi 8 Mi 9 Mi 10. Actually, it could be the Mi Note 10 from the rear, but the punch hole for the camera in the front makes it a bit different from the previous device.

There's no fingerprint scanner, so we can assume it's under the display, and there's also no 3.5mm headphone jack.

Display

  • 6.57 inch OLED display on both
  • Frequency 90Hz update suggested

We recently saw the Redmi K30 start with a 120Hz display and it seems to be very trendy, so you can expect the Mi 10 to offer this faster refresh rate. Xiaomi has already talked about Redmi K30 running at 144Hz – would that Xiaomi only does it on Mi 10 to be better than Samsung and Huawei?

Based on the specs we've seen, this may not be the case. Specifications Weibo has suggested that we will see a 6,5-inch OLED display in both devices, but with a refresh rate of 90Hz. We can't shake the feeling that a pro might have a 120Hz display instead of helping to differentiate. Leaked specs from an online retailer suggest the display is actually 6.57 inches, while a leaked screenshot suggested 6.4 inches.

The network leaked the screenshot kept saying it was 2080 x 1080 pixels, which comes out at 17:9, which doesn't sound good for a 2020 phone, so we suspect they're wrong or fake.

It is believed to punch a hole for the camera on the front and supports supposedly real life footage.

Equipment specifications

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+X55 5g
  • Mi 10: 8/12 GB RAM, 128/256 GB
  • Mi 10 Pro: 12GB RAM, 128/256/512GB storage
  • 4500mah battery, 5250mah suggested

One of the confirmed rumors is that the Mi 10 will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor from the 865 platform. This was confirmed by Xiaomi itself at Qualcomm's new hardware launch and Xiaomi also confirmed that it will be launching a number of phones in 5G, so we suspect that it will be a 5g phone from launch, via X55 modem.

The two different versions of this phone should be differentiated with hardware to that extent. Although both have the same basic components, the Mi 10 Pro will have 12GB of RAM, while the Mi 10 will start at 8GB, according to the leaked specs. There will be 128GB, 256GB options on the Mi 10, while the Mi 10 Pro also offers 512GB of internal storage.

More recent leaks have suggested there would have been 16GB of RAM available on the Browser Edition - and there is a codename that went through CCC - a certification body in China that could offer such an edition too in the Proceedings.

We're told the 4500mah battery is something we now head to from several sources - though we've also seen the 5250mAh scatter too.

The Mi 10 will have 40W wired and 30 wireless, while the Pro will have 66W wired and 40W wireless charging by one leak. We have also seen a 65W charger appear in hand-pictured, at 66W charging was part of the certification for these devices, so if possible, reasonably reliable.

Камеры

  • Mi 10 Pro: 108MP main camera
  • Mi 10: 64MP main camera

On the front camera, the case packs impressive performance for the price. We recently saw some interesting camera moves from Xiaomi, through Sony's new IMX686 64MP sensor in the Redmi K30, and also launches a 108MP system in the Mi Note 10. It looks like the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro may be using these cameras again, respectively. .

What you will see is the Mi 10 with a 64-megapixel Sony sensor, paired with 20, 12 and 5-megapixel cameras, although the exact configuration is not known.

The Mi 10 Pro is likely to get a 108-megapixel camera, with 48, 12 and 8-megapixel cameras. Again, this mechanism is not yet known and we've seen different configurations offered - currently it's hard to know one way or another what we'll be getting.

As we mentioned, there could be a punch hole for the camera on the display, and a leak from an online store suggests it's a dual camera setup, with 32 and 8-megapixel sensors. Whether this is for depth, or to provide a wide angle is not known.
