Threats have increased substantially over the past few years, with many consumers turning to secure email for enhanced protection.
However, Tutanota's encrypted email users have had difficulty checking their email from their smartphones recently as AT&T blocked access to the company's services.
In late January, the company began receiving complaints from mobile users who were unable to access their encrypted Tutanova mailboxes. Tutanova approached mobile operators who seemed willing to help fix the problem temporarily, but two weeks have passed and nothing has been done.
Back in March 2018, there was a similar glitch when Comcast temporarily blocked access to Tutanova due to a technical issue. However, after connecting with Comcast employees via Twitter, the problem was fixed within one day.
Blocking bypass
If you are both a "Tutanota" user and an AT&T mobile subscriber, you can bypass the block on services using a VPN.
Co-founder at Tutanota, Matthias Pfau argues that in today's digital age, the internet should be treated as a program so that ISPs cannot block websites or services, saying:
“The Internet, as a free and open marketplace, is great for information, innovation and competition. Therefore, the Internet should be treated as a utility, like electricity or water. In our modern digital age, access to the Internet - and all its contents at the highest possible speed has already become a basic necessity for all of us. Therefore, no ISP should have the right to block or restrict access to any site. We hope that AT&T will pick up this regional bloc soon."
