How Snapchat is New Here for You Mental Health Tool Works

Snap is rolling out a new mental health tool called here for you, which is part of Snapchat's built-in search feature.

Originally introduced last month, here for you is intended to serve as "active in-app support" for Snapchatters who may be experiencing mental health and emotional crisis. It is also helpful for those who want to learn more about these issues and help others who are dealing with them. Here you have to roll out for this spring and summer, but now against the background of the coronavirus pandemic.

What's here Snap tool for you?

Here is for you to show "safety resources" from mental health experts - including local professionals - when searching on specific topics such as anxiety, depression, stress, grief, suicidal thoughts, and bullying. There is a COVID-19-specific topic, for example, along with information from the Announcement Council, the World Health Organization, the CDC, the text line crisis, the NHS, and others.

Snap, the company behind Snapchat, is partnering with these professionals to create content specifically related to the coronavirus. In a statementSnap said what's here for you is "mindful research" that shows communication with other people is the best defense against "feelings of loneliness and anxiety."

Using a snap for you tool

  1. Open the latest version of Snapchat in the mobile app.
  2. If you are a new user, you will need to see to register.
  3. Look for the Search button (magnifying glass icon) up and click on it.
  4. Now, start typing in the search field. Try searching for "coronavirus".

The search feature inside the Snapchat app for iOS and Android will help you find friends, save memories, lenses, story publishers, and now, resources are here for you. Just type in a mental health related topic or even a syndrome and then you'll see suggestions here for you.
