The main symptoms of coronavirus

Coronavirus is an infection that belongs to RNA-containing viruses. It causes disease in animals and humans and is highly infectious. Today's COVID-19 virus is spreading quite quickly, and therefore it is necessary to know what symptoms it has and what to look out for.

Symptoms of Coronavirus

The disease begins with the fact that the virus is transmitted by airborne droplets from a sick organism to a healthy one. One of the first signs that a person is sick with coronavirus is a cough. As a rule, it is dry, but sometimes sputum may appear. Often it has an obsessive character and often remains even after the patient has recovered.

The second symptom that may indicate damage to the body of COVID-19 is fever. Usually it rises in 90% of cases, so you should be wary. At the same time, fever sets in.

There are other signs by which you can suspect coronavirus:

  • shortness of breath and difficulty breathing;
  • headache;
  • weakness;
  • "ache" in the muscles;
  • drowsiness;
  • chest pain.

There are also a number of non-specific symptoms that do not always indicate the presence of a coronavirus in the human body. They should not be guided, however, they can also manifest themselves during the course of the disease.

Some patients report that they develop diarrhea. Nausea, vomiting, lack of appetite are possible, which is why patients confuse coronavirus with rotavirus, which has similar symptoms. A number of patients complain of a headache, especially if the body temperature rises to 38 degrees. It is extremely rare, but there may still be pain in the throat, pressure surges and a rapid pulse.

For coronavirus, a runny nose is practically not typical, which distinguishes it from other diseases. For example, the flu and especially colds, in which the discharge of mucus from the nose is the norm rather than the exception. Sneezing is another sign that is characteristic of SARS and colds, but almost never occurs with coronavirus.

How the symptoms manifest themselves by day

In the first 1-4 days, the patient feels fever and cough. In addition, he may have muscle pain and weakness. On the 5th-6th day, coughing attacks intensify, and there may be a feeling of lack of air. This stage is the most dangerous, because after a week of the course of the disease, serious breathing problems can begin. If this happens, an oxygen mask and hospitalization are recommended.

By day 11, respiratory disorders are reduced, as well as other manifestations of the disease. If the treatment was prescribed correctly, then on day 12 the temperature drops (sometimes even earlier), and after the second week from the onset of the disease, the patient experiences improvements, and the signs of coronavirus practically disappear.

The severity of symptoms depends on the age of the patient, concomitant chronic diseases, as well as general health. It is worth noting that in some people the disease can be almost asymptomatic, and a person, unwittingly, infects others. In addition, a disease that is not treated or treated incorrectly can lead to complications such as pneumonia and pulmonary edema. That is why when the first symptoms appear, it is advisable to immediately consult a doctor and begin adequate therapy.

Be careful and take care of yourself.
