Andrey Arshavin and his transfer to the London Arsenal


Technically, Arshavin was not actually signed in January. Arsenal fans had to wait until early February for confirmation that his move from Zenit to St. Petersburg had taken place. It was a transfer to a truly strong European team, and the fans immediately began to bet on the number of goals that Arshavin would score in London. And the diminutive Russian playmaker certainly lived up to expectations.

Arshavin may not have reached the heights that many in north London had hoped for, but his influence in those first few months after the transfer was enormous.

When Arshavin signed, Arsène Wenger's side were five points behind the top four, but they only lost one game after signing him and comfortably secured fourth place as well as Champions League qualification.

He scored six goals in 15 games between his debut and the end of the season, including that famous four when Arsenal drew 4-4 against Liverpool at Anfield.
