Privacy-focused blockchain Zano has announced a network rollback to the block that preceded its sixth hard fork. The cause was a bug that allowed assets to be minted outside the intended emission rules. According to available information, about a month of transactions was removed from the network’s history.
What happened
The problem was tied to the Gateway Addresses feature. For a blockchain, an inflation bug is one of the most serious kinds: it affects the rule that determines how many new coins can exist on the network.
The team took a radical route: roll the chain back to an earlier state and launch a fixed version. Nodes, miners, stakers and services need to update and sync with the correct chain.
What it means for users
Transactions that fell within the removed period can’t automatically be considered final. Anyone holding ZANO or related assets should check their balance and history once wallets and platforms finish syncing.
Exchanges, wallets and services may temporarily restrict operations while they verify the new chain. This is a normal response to a major rollback: the infrastructure needs to make sure it sees the same state of the network.
