How the films connect

The film series doesn’t have a separate chronological order: among the eight films there are no prequels or spinoffs, and each film continues the previous one. The later films are the most tightly connected:

  • Rogue Nation and Fallout. The sixth film takes place two years after the fifth. Its threat comes from the Apostles, a group made up of former members of the Syndicate from Rogue Nation.
  • Fallout and Dead Reckoning. The seventh film takes place after the events of the sixth.
  • Dead Reckoning and The Final Reckoning. These are two parts of one story: the seventh film came out with the subtitle “Part One” (later dropped), and the eighth was originally titled “Dead Reckoning Part Two.” The new title was announced in November 2024. The eighth film takes place shortly after the seventh.
