12 super cool things you can do on your Mac

1. Add to your reading list in the blink of an eye

The Reading List adds a temporary bookmark to pages you want to return to but don't want to save to your main bookmarks.

This feature isn't exactly hidden, but it's not well-known either. If you want to add something to your reading list in seconds, we have a quick way to do it.

On a web page, hold shift+cmd+d . It is so simple. The best part about it is that your reading list stays in sync across all your Apple devices!

2. Play chess.

To set it up, you need to go to "Application", then "System Preferences", then "Accessibility" and finally "Speakers".

Here, if you press the radio button, you can program different phrases into your Mac corresponding to different commands. Just set up a keybinding that lets your Mac record your speech and you're on your way!

Exit this menu and you can start using voice commands right away!

5. Annotate PDFs Without Additional Software

Editing PDF files can be a daunting task. On Windows, you need to download special software to edit these documents. On a Mac, this is not the case!

One of the really cool things you can do on a Mac is download Preview, the built-in PDF viewer and editor. In Preview, you can annotate and edit PDF files directly without downloading any other software.

If you want to add your signature to a document, that's easy too! Bring a sheet of paper with your signature to the webcam, and it will be added to the document!

6. Use your photo stream as wallpaper.

If you want a changeable wallpaper, you need to set iCloud Photo Stream as your wallpaper! While you can add individual photos as backgrounds, you can also use the entire photo stream.

To do this, you need to follow a few simple steps. Load display and screen saver settings. Here you need to select your iCloud Photo Stream as Library. Then choose a folder on your Mac where the images will come from.

If you prefer your wallpaper to remain static, you can use Photostream as your screensaver!

7. Swipe between open apps on Macbook.

8. Write summaries of long documents.

If you're a writer, student, or regularly write long documents, you'll love this feature. You know how limited the word count can be. I'm fighting it right now!

If you're using a Mac, you can do summaries in a second without lifting your finger! To summarize a document, you need to enable this feature. Go to "System Preferences" then "Keyboard" then "Shortcuts" then "Services": turn on "Summarize" here!

To summarize text, select the text you want to summarize. Then right click, select Services and then Wrap Up! This feature will pull out the most important points and make rewriting easier.

9. Simultaneous renaming of several files.

Sometimes having an organized file system can seem impossible. Renaming a huge batch of files one at a time is also not a way to sort them. Luckily, on a Mac, you can rename batches of files in one go!

Select all the files you want to rename. Then just click "rename x files" where x is the number of selected files.

A window will open where you can rename the entire batch of files in one go.

10. Text from your Mac

Did you think texting should be limited to your phone? It is not true! You can optionally set up your Mac to both send and receive texts. You don't even need an iPhone for this! As many Apple Tech fan blogs have reported, this is one of the most loved features people love, but many regular users just don't know about it.

To set up this feature, you'll need to set up your new Mac with the same email address that your iMessage account is associated with. Then go to "Settings" then "Messages" on your iPhone. Here, enable text message forwarding.

Click on the phone number in your contacts and you will be able to send texts! It will also use iMessage just like text messages from iPhone to iPhone.

11. Find apps with ease

Do you know the name of the app you want to use but don't have a shortcut handy? Don't be afraid, you can still find this app!

Download Launchpad and start typing the name of the app you want to use. The list of applications that have been opened will decrease with each keystroke. You will soon see the app you want to use.

12. Encrypt folders

In Disk Utility, select File, New, and Empty Disk Image. Specify its name, location and size, and select the encryption method. Click Create.
