The iPhone Duo is the first foldable iPhone. Apple unveiled it on September 9, 2026: pre-orders open on October 16, sales begin on October 23, and in the US it starts at $1,999 with 256 GB of storage. Below are the release dates by country, prices for every configuration as of September 22, 2026, and the displays, chip, cameras and battery life, all based on Apple’s official data.
iPhone Duo release date
The foldable iPhone comes out later than the iPhone 18 Pro, which has been on sale since September 18. Pre-orders open on Friday, October 16, at 5 a.m. PT, and on October 23 the phone arrives in stores in more than 70 countries and regions, including the US, the UK, Germany, France, Japan, China, India, Türkiye and the UAE.
In another 28 countries and regions, sales start a week later, on October 30. Apple didn’t list them in its press release, so check the timing for your country on your local Apple website or with authorized resellers.

The price depends only on storage: both colors, Star White and Night Sky, cost the same.

Displays and build
On the outside is a 5.4-inch display with about 90% of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro, and when it’s closed, the phone is about the size of a passport. Inside is a 7.6-inch folding display, the largest ever on an iPhone: it’s 50% larger than the display on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. You can open two apps side by side on it, a first for iPhone.
According to Apple, both displays have the same aspect ratio, so the interface scales rather than stretches when you open the phone. The inner display has a matte nano-texture finish that Apple says reduces glare and makes the crease less visible. Both displays support ProMotion up to 120 Hz and up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness outdoors, and Apple Pencil (USB-C) support is coming to both by the end of 2026.
The frame and hinge cover are made of Grade 5 titanium, with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and Ceramic Shield on the back. The hinge is built from more than 100 components, and water and dust resistance is rated IP68.
Chip, batteries and connectivity
Inside is the A20 Pro, the same chip as in the iPhone 18 Pro. The chip is connected to a vapor chamber for cooling, and according to Apple, the iPhone Duo delivers up to 35% better sustained performance than the iPhone 17 Pro.
There are two batteries, one in each half, and the system uses them as one. Apple promises up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display, up to 44 hours on the outer display and up to 24 hours when you use both displays equally. The phone charges to 50% in about 20 minutes with an adapter rated at 60 W or higher; there’s no adapter in the box, only a USB-C cable.
Touch ID is built into the side button and works whether the phone is closed or open, and you can also unlock the phone with an Apple Watch. Connectivity comes from the Apple C2 modem and the N1 chip with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The iPhone Duo will ship with iOS 27.1.
iPhone Duo cameras
On the back is the 48MP Dual Fusion camera system: the Fusion Main camera (26 mm, ƒ/1.6, sensor-shift optical image stabilization) and the Fusion Ultra Wide camera (13 mm, 120°), the same one used on the iPhone 18 Pro. There’s no separate telephoto camera; the main camera provides “optical-quality” 2x zoom. Video recording goes up to 4K at 120 fps in Dolby Vision.
The folding design adds new camera features. With the phone open, you can take selfies with the rear cameras and preview the shot on the outer display. Duo Preview shows the frame to the people you’re photographing, Smart Take automatically takes the photo when everyone in the frame is ready, and Kid Cue plays an animation to get a child to look at the camera.
The outer display houses the 12MP Center Stage front camera, while a FaceTime camera is hidden under the inner display.
Who the foldable iPhone is for
- People who work from their phone: the inner display makes it easy to keep email and a document, or two Safari windows, side by side.
- People who watch videos and play games: the display is 50% larger than on the iPhone 18 Pro Max, yet the phone still fits in a pocket.
- People who often photograph other people: selfies with the rear cameras and a preview on the outer display.
- Not a good fit if you rarely need a big screen: the iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 and has the same A20 Pro, plus a telephoto camera.
