Spotify Premium is Spotify’s paid subscription: ad-free music, downloads for offline listening, songs in any order and audio up to 320 kbit/s. As of October 6, 2026, Ukraine has four plans: Individual at $4.99 a month, Duo at $6.49, Family at $7.99 and Student at $2.49. The first month of Individual and Student costs $0 if you have never had Premium.
Below: a table of plans, how Premium differs from the free version, the rules for Duo, Family and Student, how to sign up and pay, how to cancel or change plans, and what to do if a payment fails. Terms and prices come from Spotify’s pages for Ukraine.
Spotify Premium plans and prices in Ukraine
Spotify has officially operated in Ukraine since July 2020. It lists prices for the country in US dollars — that is how they appear on the Premium page and on the pages of individual plans.
| Plan | Price in Ukraine | Accounts | Who it’s for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Premium Individual | $4.99 a month, 1st month $0 | 1 | One person |
| Premium Duo | $6.49 a month | 2 | A couple living together |
| Premium Family | $7.99 a month | Up to 6 | A family at one address |
| Premium Student | $2.49 a month, 1st month $0 | 1 | College students aged 18+ |
Duo and Family cost less than separate subscriptions: Duo works out to about $3.25 per person, and Family with six members to about $1.33. Only the plan manager — the person who signed up — pays, and always the full amount, no matter how many members join.
The free month on Individual and Student is only for people who have never had Premium, paid or trial. Even for the trial you need a valid payment method: Spotify uses it to confirm your country and, when the offer ends, automatically charges the regular price. A reminder arrives 7 days before the trial ends. On the Ukraine page, Duo and Family have no trial month.
If the price changes, Spotify emails you in advance with the new amount and the date it takes effect. VAT, where it applies, is already included. Prices vary by country, and Spotify publishes them for each country separately, so amounts quoted for other countries don’t apply to Ukraine.
What Spotify Premium adds over the free version
The free version, Spotify Free, lets you listen to millions of songs and podcasts with ads, and it doesn’t need a bank card. Premium removes the limits of Free — here is how Spotify compares the two on its Ukraine page and in its help center.
| Feature | Spotify Free | Spotify Premium |
|---|---|---|
| Ads | Yes | No |
| Offline downloads | Podcasts only | Music and podcasts |
| Songs in any order | No | Yes |
| Quality in the app | Up to ~160 kbit/s | Up to ~320 kbit/s |
| Quality in the web player | AAC 128 kbit/s | AAC 256 kbit/s |
| Queue control | No | Yes |
| Jam — listen with friends | Join in person | Start one, join remotely |
Downloads and offline listening
With Premium you can download albums, playlists and podcasts — up to 10,000 tracks on each of five devices. You can’t download a single song on its own: add it to a playlist and download the whole playlist.
The app has to go online at least once every 30 days, or your downloads disappear: this is how Spotify counts plays to pay artists. If you download music on a sixth device, downloads are removed from the one you have used least recently.
Audio quality
In the app for phones, tablets and computers, Premium adds the highest quality level — about 320 kbit/s. On the free version the maximum is about 160 kbit/s. In the web player, Premium streams AAC at 256 kbit/s versus 128 kbit/s on Free, but you can’t change the quality there.
In the mobile app you set quality separately for Wi-Fi, cellular and downloads — in settings, under Media Quality. Higher quality uses more data and storage. If you’re still picking what to listen with, see our roundup of cheap headphones.
Jam and other devices
Jam is group listening: friends listen together and add songs to a shared queue, including on a speaker. Only a Premium subscriber can start a Jam. Free users can join one in person, while joining remotely requires Premium. Jam works with smart speakers and Bluetooth speakers — you’ll find suitable models in our roundup of portable speakers.
You can listen to Spotify on a phone, a computer and in a browser, as well as on speakers, TVs and in the car — via Spotify Connect, Bluetooth, AirPlay or Chromecast. One account plays music on only one device at a time, so sharing an Individual plan between two people is awkward: that is what Duo and Family are for.
What Premium in Ukraine doesn’t have yet
Since September 2025, Spotify has been adding lossless audio to Premium — FLAC up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz; by October 2025 it was available in more than 50 markets. Spotify’s pages for Ukraine don’t list lossless as of October 6, 2026: the Premium maximum there is about 320 kbit/s. When the feature becomes available, Spotify sends subscribers a notification in the app.
Audiobook listening hours in Premium aren’t available in Ukraine either: Spotify’s help center says the option isn’t offered in the region yet and gives no timeline.
Premium Duo and Family: the one-address rule
Duo gives two Premium accounts to a couple, and Family gives up to six accounts to family members, including the plan manager. Each member has their own account with their own playlists and recommendations. Everyone can listen at the same time, and no one can see what the others are playing.
The main condition: all members live at the same address. When joining, a member enters the same address as the manager, and Spotify may ask to confirm it again, for example if the manager changes the address. Spotify doesn’t track your location — it only checks the address.
If a member doesn’t pass the re-check within 7 days, their account switches to Free. They can only rejoin the same Family or Duo plan, and can’t join any other one for 12 months.
Other things to know:
- the manager invites and removes members; a Family manager can’t join someone else’s plan, and a Duo manager can’t be changed once the plan is created;
- a member can switch plans no more than once every 12 months;
- on Family, the manager can block explicit content for members — this is the plan’s parental control;
- Duo and Family can’t be paid for with Spotify gift cards or prepaid cards, and Family can’t be paid through a mobile carrier either;
- if you already pay for Premium and join someone else’s Duo or Family, any paid but unused days are lost without compensation, but your playlists and saved music stay.
Premium Student: who qualifies and how to verify
The student plan costs $2.49 a month, and the first month is $0 for those who haven’t used Premium. You qualify if you are 18 or older and study at an accredited college or university on the list of SheerID, the service that verifies students for Spotify. If your school isn’t on the list, the discount isn’t available to you yet.
You verify through the SheerID form: log in to your school’s portal or upload proof of enrollment. SheerID replies by email, sometimes after a few days. You don’t need to register with Spotify using a student email, but you can’t pay for Student through a mobile carrier or internet provider.
The discount lasts up to 4 years, but you need to re-verify every 12 months: 4 weeks before the deadline, Spotify emails you instructions. If you don’t re-verify, your plan continues at the regular Individual price of $4.99 a month. Studying abroad? You can still get the discount if your Spotify account country matches where you study and your payment method was issued there.
How to get Spotify Premium and how to pay
You sign up on Spotify’s website, and it takes a few minutes. You can’t buy Premium in the iPhone and iPad app because of Apple’s restrictions — open the website in a browser instead.
Open the Premium page
Go to Spotify’s Premium page for Ukraine and log in or create an account. Spotify’s Ukraine site is available in Ukrainian and English.
Result: You see four plans with prices for Ukraine.
Choose a plan
For Individual, click “Try 1 month for 0 US$.” For Student, the SheerID verification form opens first. For Duo and Family, click “Get Premium Duo” or “Get Premium Family” and enter your home address: Spotify looks it up through Google Maps.
Result: The payment page opens.
Add a payment method
On the plans page for Ukraine, Spotify shows Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Diners Club, Discover and PayPal logos. The exact list of methods appears at checkout, since it depends on the country. On Android, Google Play Billing may be offered when you buy in the app — in that case Google handles the payments.
Prepaid cards and Spotify gift cards can’t be used for the trial month. Your billing date is the day you sign up, and the only way to change it later is to subscribe again.
Result: Premium turns on right away; the first charge comes after the trial month, or at sign-up for Duo and Family.
Invite Duo or Family members
The manager sends an invite by email, WhatsApp or another way. The member opens the link, logs in to their own Spotify account and confirms the same home address. If they already had Premium, their music, playlists and recommendations are kept.
Result: Each member has their own Premium account.
How to cancel Spotify Premium or change plans
You can cancel at any time on the website, on your account page:
- Log in at spotify.com and open your account page.
- Go to Manage your subscription (“Керування підпискою” on the Ukrainian version of the site).
- Click Cancel subscription (“Скасувати підписку”) and confirm.
Paid Premium keeps working until your next billing date, which is the end of the paid period, and then the account switches to Free. Your playlists and saved music stay, and you can play them with ads. Free doesn’t allow music downloads for offline listening — only podcasts.
If you manage a Duo or Family plan, canceling ends Premium for every member from the next payment date, so let them know. A member who follows the same steps only leaves the plan; it doesn’t cancel it.
To switch Individual or Student to another plan, use the same page: Manage your subscription → Change plan → choose a plan. The new plan starts right away, and if you are on the free trial month, the payment is taken immediately. Whatever plan you switch to, your playlists, saved songs and settings are kept.
A Duo or Family manager moving to a smaller plan chooses which members keep Premium. The rest move to Free on the next billing date, which is also when the new price starts. A Duo or Family member who wants a plan of their own must first cancel Premium and switch to Free, then subscribe again.
If you pay through Google Play Billing, you can change plans only in the Spotify app on Android, and Google handles payment questions. If your Premium comes through a partner — a mobile carrier or internet provider — you cancel and change it with that partner.
If you can’t pay or cancel
- Your card is declined. Check that it was issued in the same country as your Spotify account, hasn’t expired and allows recurring online payments abroad — you can set this in your bank’s app. Your bank may ask you to confirm the payment with a password, PIN, fingerprint or a code sent to your phone.
- The payment still fails. Enter your card details in a private (incognito) window, try another payment method or wait a few hours: the problem may be temporary.
- A monthly payment failed. You don’t lose Premium right away: Spotify retries the charge over the next few days. Update your payment details on your account page.
- PayPal doesn’t work. The country on your PayPal account must match the one on Spotify, and the PayPal account must be verified.
- There’s no option to cancel or change plans. Your plan is through a partner: the link to contact them is under Manage your subscription, in the Payment section.
- You canceled but were still charged. Open your account page and check the payment section. If it shows a next payment date, the cancellation didn’t go through — repeat it and wait for the confirmation message. If it shows the date you switch to Free, the plan is canceled: you most likely canceled right after a payment was processed, you won’t be charged again, and Premium works until that date.
- You were charged, but the account is on Free. Most likely Premium is on a different account. Log out and log in another way — with email, phone number, Apple or Google.
- Premium disappeared on Duo or Family. The manager may have removed you from the plan, or the address check may have failed. Ask the manager to invite you again.
- There’s no buy button in the iPhone app. This is Apple’s restriction: get Premium on Spotify’s website in a browser.
If ads don’t bother you, you can stay on Spotify Free. We’ve collected other free apps worth installing on your phone in our roundup of useful smartphone apps.
