What is failure detection?

Crash Detection is used to detect serious car accidents in passenger cars. If you're in a major accident and become unresponsive, your Apple device can automatically call emergency services on your behalf.

How does crash detection work?

Whether you're driving or as a passenger in a car, the motion sensor works in tandem with the wide dynamic range gyroscope and high acceleration accelerometer, GPS, barometer, microphone and advanced motion algorithms in your iPhone or Apple Watch. accurately identify an accident.

When a hard failure is detected, an alert will appear on the Apple Watch or iPhone display for 10 seconds. If you're still responsive, you can swipe to instantly call emergency services, or turn off the alarm when you don't need to contact them. If you don't interact with your Apple device within 10 seconds, a 10 second countdown starts. When it ends, the phone will contact emergency services.
