Early access to Gears of War: E-Day is now open for Premium Edition owners. The full release of the new entry in the series is set for October 6 on Xbox Series X|S and PC, and the game will also arrive in Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on launch day.
E-Day is a prequel that takes the story back to Emergence Day, the first day of the Locust’s massive invasion of the planet Sera. The campaign centers on a young Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, so the game doesn’t continue the events of Gears 5; instead, it shows the start of the war that earlier games only talked about.
Which platforms Gears of War: E-Day is coming to
- Xbox Series X|S;
- PC via the Xbox app and Steam;
- Xbox Cloud Gaming on supported devices.
Versions for the previous Xbox generation and PlayStation 5 are not on the platform list. The game supports Xbox Play Anywhere: a digital purchase in the Xbox ecosystem gives you access on both console and PC via the Microsoft Store.
What players can expect at launch
Besides the story campaign, E-Day bets on competitive modes and a new take on co-op defense, Horde Siege, in which a team holds positions, builds defenses and survives waves of enemies. The developers warned in advance that some online modes will only be fully assessed after the mass launch, once the servers face real load.
For PC, Microsoft has already revealed the system requirements and opened pre-installation. If you plan to play in the first days, free up space on your SSD and update your graphics driver to the version recommended by the manufacturer. That won’t guarantee a problem-free launch day, but it reduces the risk of long loading times and conflicts with old software.
