Metro Exodus PC system requirements depend on the version. The regular game gets by with a Core i5-4440, 8 GB of RAM and a GTX 670, GTX 1050 or Radeon HD 7870 graphics card with 2 GB of memory, while the Enhanced Edition only runs on a graphics card that supports ray tracing: the minimum is an RTX 2060, 4 cores with Hyper-Threading and Windows 10 20H2. Data verified on October 21, 2026 against the game’s Steam page and 4A Games’ tables.
- Regular version, minimum: Core i5-4440, 8 GB RAM, GTX 670 / GTX 1050 / HD 7870, DirectX 11, 59 GB of storage.
- Regular version, recommended: Core i7-4770K, 8 GB RAM, GTX 1070 / RTX 2060 / RX Vega 56, DirectX 12.
- Enhanced Edition, minimum: 4 cores + HT, 8 GB RAM, NVIDIA RTX 2060, Windows 10 20H2, DirectX 12, about 80 GB with DLC.
Metro Exodus vs Enhanced Edition: what’s the difference
The Enhanced Edition came out on May 6, 2021 as a free standalone version for all Metro Exodus owners on PC: the changes were too large for a regular patch. It’s not a graphics mode but a different build of the game with its own requirements.
- Ray tracing is always on. You can’t turn it off: according to 4A Games, this version is built to run with ray tracing. It features ray-traced emissive lighting, a field-of-view slider and DLSS.
- Windows only. According to 4A Games, the Enhanced Edition runs only on Windows and has no Mac or Linux versions. The regular version on Steam supports all three systems.
- Saves. Both versions use the same save folder: chapter saves carry over, but progress within a level stays in the version where it was made. For anyone who doesn’t want to replay, all versions of Enhanced offer chapter unlocks, but achievements are disabled in that slot.
- 2026 updates. On August 26, 2026, the game got a patch that added a Deep Silver account, and on September 2, a PC fix restored the DLSS settings in the Enhanced Edition.
Regular Metro Exodus system requirements
The processors, memory and graphics cards for the minimum and recommended tiers match the Steam page. 4A Games published the High and Extreme tiers before the game’s release, in January 2019, along with resolution and frame rate targets.

RTX effects in the regular version require Windows 10 version 1809 or later and DirectX 12. Steam lists 59 GB of storage and a DirectX-compatible sound card for the game; for the minimum, Steam lists DirectX 11.
Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition system requirements
For all five tiers, 4A Games lists Windows 10 version 20H2 and DirectX 12. The values were measured with Shading Rate 1 and DLSS off.
| Tier | Minimum | Recommended | High | Ultra | RT Extreme |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Target | 1080p, 45 FPS | 1080p, 60 FPS | 1440p, 60 FPS | 4K, 30 FPS | 4K, 60 FPS |

AMD graphics cards appear in the table only from the Recommended tier up. Steam adds a note to the requirements: the Enhanced Edition needs an NVIDIA RTX or AMD RX graphics card. According to 4A Games, changing the Shading Rate or enabling DLSS can raise performance, resolution or quality, and the available settings depend on the amount of VRAM.
Metro Exodus on Mac, Linux and Steam Deck
The regular version is available on Steam for macOS and Linux. The Mac minimum is macOS Catalina 10.15, an Intel Core i7-7820, 16 GB of RAM and a Radeon Pro 560; the recommended specs are macOS Big Sur and a Radeon RX 5700 XT or a Mac with Apple M1. For Linux, Steam lists Ubuntu 20, a Core i5-4440 and 8 GB of RAM; graphics cards range from a GTX 670 or Radeon R9 380 with 4 GB of VRAM at the minimum to a GTX 1070, RTX 2060 or RX 5500 XT with 8 GB at the recommended tier. On Steam Deck, Valve rates both versions as Playable.
How to check your PC
Check your processor, memory and Windows version
Open Settings → System → About, as described in Microsoft’s help page. “Device specifications” shows the processor and RAM amount, and “Windows specifications” shows the version: the Enhanced Edition needs 20H2 or later.
Result: You know your processor, RAM amount and Windows version.
Check whether your graphics card supports ray tracing
Press Win + R, type dxdiag and open the Display tab: it shows the graphics card model. For the Enhanced Edition, compare it with the 4A Games table — the minimum is an RTX 2060. If the name says GeForce GTX, install the regular version.
Result: You know whether your graphics card works for the Enhanced Edition.
Check free space
In Settings, open System → Storage. The regular version needs 59 GB, and the Enhanced Edition with DLC needs about 80 GB.
Result: You can see whether there’s enough disk space.
What to do if your PC is weaker
- Install the regular version. Its minimum tier targets 1080p, 30 FPS and low settings on GTX 670 or GTX 1050-class graphics cards with 2 GB.
- In the Enhanced Edition, turn on DLSS on NVIDIA RTX graphics cards or change the Shading Rate: 4A Games explicitly names these as ways to boost performance.
- Watch your VRAM. According to 4A Games, the amount determines which settings are available.
- Graphics card upgrade. The Enhanced Edition needs a model with ray tracing — you’ll find options in the graphics card roundup. If you’re buying a used card, the checklist for inspecting a used graphics card will help.
- Short on space. You can move the game to another drive in Steam without downloading it again.
