The minimum PC system requirements for Fallout 4 are a Core i5-2300 or Phenom II X4 945, 8 GB of RAM, a GTX 550 Ti or Radeon HD 7870 graphics card with 2 GB of memory and 30 GB of storage on 64-bit Windows 7, 8 or 10. The free High Resolution Texture Pack raises the bar to a GTX 1080 and Core i7-5820K, while the Anniversary Edition, released on November 10, 2025, didn’t change the requirements on Steam. Data verified on October 21, 2026 against the Steam pages for the game and the texture pack and Bethesda announcements.
- Minimum: Core i5-2300 / Phenom II X4 945, 8 GB RAM, GTX 550 Ti 2 GB / HD 7870 2 GB, 30 GB.
- Recommended: Core i7-4790 / FX-9590, 8 GB RAM, GTX 780 3 GB / R9 290X 4 GB, 30 GB.
- With the HD texture pack: Core i7-5820K, 8 GB RAM, GTX 1080 8 GB and another 58 GB of storage.
Fallout 4 system requirements in a table
The table mirrors the Fallout 4 page on Steam. It’s a shared block for all editions: standard, Game of the Year Edition and Anniversary Edition.
| Parameter | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 7, 8 or 10, 64-bit only | Windows 7, 8 or 10, 64-bit only |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-2300 2.8 GHz or AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.0 GHz | Intel Core i7-4790 3.6 GHz or AMD FX-9590 4.7 GHz |
| RAM | 8 GB | 8 GB |
| Graphics card | NVIDIA GTX 550 Ti 2 GB or AMD Radeon HD 7870 2 GB | NVIDIA GTX 780 3 GB or AMD Radeon R9 290X 4 GB |
| Storage | 30 GB | 30 GB |
Both tiers call for the same 8 GB of RAM; the difference is in the processor and graphics card. Steam shows no new requirements after the 2024 next-gen update or the Anniversary Edition release.
High Resolution Texture Pack
The Fallout 4 High Resolution Texture Pack is a free add-on released on February 6, 2017. Steam lists separate requirements for it, noticeably higher than the recommended specs for the game itself.
| Parameter | HD texture pack |
|---|---|
| OS | Windows 7, 8 or 10, 64-bit only |
| Processor | Intel Core i7-5820K or better |
| RAM | 8 GB |
| Graphics card | NVIDIA GTX 1080 8 GB |
| Storage | 58 GB |
Anniversary Edition and the 2024–2025 updates
- Next-gen update (April 25, 2024). The PC version gained widescreen and ultrawide support, fixes for the Creation Kit and a number of quests, and the game received Steam Deck Verified status. A separate fix addressed a bug that kept the game from saving if the Windows username was written in Cyrillic.
- Anniversary Edition (November 10, 2025). The edition includes the base game, six official add-ons — Far Harbor, Automatron, Nuka-World, Contraptions Workshop, Vault-Tec Workshop and Wasteland Workshop — and more than 150 Creation Club items.
- If you already own the game. Standard edition owners can get the Anniversary Edition Upgrade, and Game of the Year Edition owners can get the separate Creations Bundle. Since November 10, 2025, the Creations menu has been available in all versions of Fallout 4.
Bethesda hasn’t published separate system requirements for the Anniversary Edition; on Steam, the same block with 30 GB applies to it. Add-ons and Creation Club items take up space beyond the base game, so leave some room on your drive.
Can your PC run Fallout 4? Check it in a minute
An estimate from the specs: graphics cards are compared by compute power (FP32, TFLOPS) and video memory from the Wikipedia tables, adjusted for the architecture (NVIDIA RTX 30–50, AMD RX 7000–9000 and Intel Arc count TFLOPS differently), processors by release year and thread count. The requirements come from our articles (publishers’ data, checked 30 October 2026). Real performance depends on drivers, settings and the game itself.
How to check your PC
Check your processor, memory and bitness
Open Settings → System → About, as described in Microsoft’s help page. “Device specifications” lists the processor, RAM amount and system type: Fallout 4 runs only on 64-bit Windows.
Result: You can see the processor, RAM amount and Windows bitness.
Identify your graphics card
Press Win + R, type dxdiag and open the Display tab: it shows the graphics card model and memory. The minimum calls for 2 GB, the HD texture pack for 8 GB.
Result: You know your graphics card model and its memory size.
Check free space
In Settings, open System → Storage. The game itself needs 30 GB, the HD texture pack another 58 GB, plus space for add-ons.
Result: You know whether there’s enough space for add-ons and textures.
What to do if your PC is weaker
- Skip the HD textures. They’re the heaviest component: a GTX 1080 and 58 GB on top.
- Lower the graphics quality and resolution in the game’s settings if your graphics card is closer to the minimum than to the recommended specs.
- Don’t overload the game with mods and Creations. Extra content takes up space and adds load beyond what the base requirements are designed for.
- Free up your drive. If you’re short on space, you can move the game to another drive in Steam.
- Upgrade. If the graphics card is the bottleneck, see the graphics card roundup. How to choose between editions and buy the right one is covered in “How to Buy a Game on Steam”.

Frequently asked questions
Is Fallout 4 available in Russian?
Yes, Russian is on Steam’s list of languages, but without full audio: full audio is listed only for English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Japanese. Ukrainian isn’t on the list.
How much space does Fallout 4 take?
Steam lists 30 GB for the game and 58 GB for the HD texture pack. Anniversary Edition add-ons and Creations need space beyond that.
Do you need Windows 11 for Fallout 4?
No. Steam lists 64-bit Windows 7, 8 or 10. Windows 11 isn’t named in that list, and the requirements make no separate statement about it.
Will Fallout 4 run on Steam Deck?
Yes. Since the April 25, 2024 update, the game has had Steam Deck Verified status, and as of October 21, 2026, Valve lists it as Verified.
Why didn’t Fallout 4 save if the username was in Cyrillic?
It was a known bug in the PC version. Bethesda fixed it in the next-gen update on April 25, 2024: saves now work even with a Cyrillic Windows username.
